NOTICE to KTA Members: At the AGM in the fall, a resolution was passed to have an Open Competition for the coaching position. At this time we are accepting feedback on the advertisement for this position. Please put all of your ideas or feedback in writing and drop off or email at the KTA desk (or to info@kamloopstennis.ca ) . The deadline for this feedback is Feb 10. Provided here are both background information and a draft of the advertisement:>>
Background Notes:
· The current coaching contract expires April 15.
· The terms of the current contract will have to be changed for a number of reasons, but the two most significant are changes in our funding and changes in the expectations of the membership.
· Changes in funding have occurred because KTA has been receiving Gaming Funds for a number of years in support of coaching programs. We have received notification that we will not receive this funding for the upcoming year. We are only one of hundreds of groups affected by government cutbacks.
· Tennis BC has also reconfigured the Pacific Sport High Performance Program and funding no longer comes directly to the Kamloops Pacific Sport Center.
· Both of these programs provided some core funding commitments from KTA to the coach. We can no longer offer these incentives. To do so, we would have to allocate funds from our operating revenues. Although we have funds to pay for our loan on the bubble, to pay for all of the electrical upgrades we have made, to provide core maintenance for the facility, and to pay for core operating expenses, we do not have the luxury of a monthly retainer for a coach.
· To find funds for a monthly retainer, we would have to either raise fees or fund-raise and neither is on the table at this time, and certainly will not be before April 15.
· We have received input that the Club requires a Tennis Director, that is, a person who organizes programs, does promotions, and runs coaching programs. This would be nice, but having checked multiple sources, a Tennis Director receives a monthly retainer.
· A Club Pro only carries out core coaching programs, most of which have revenues associated with them. He/she organizes programs, coaches on court, sub-contracts with additional coaches, and may or may not have access to incentive programs.
· Incentive Programs include pro shop, stringing services, adding new programs, running events, or any other program or service that has revenues associated with it. The KTA Executive believes that access to incentive programs may have to be part of the coach’s contract to offset the lack of a monthly retainer.
· All programs to be negotiated with the contracted coach have to be tempered with a careful use of courts, booking privileges, member services, public access, non-member use, security, public relations, and a balanced budget.
· KTA operates under a lease agreement with the City of Kamloops. The lease agreement requires programming and public access to the Canada Games Tennis Center. Ensuring these terms are met and that the coach works within the policies, procedures, and expectations of the KTA is part of the Board’s responsibilities.
